Hartford Skateboarding Task Force Unveils Revised Design

Andy Hart

December 09, 2010

Drawing on input from local skaters and BMX riders, the Hartford Skateboarding Task Force in conjunction with designer Benjamin McCarthy have prepared a second design for the proposed skatepark at New Ross, County Wexford Park. Per the feedback received at the September public input session, this design incorporates more street elements and fewer transitions.

The Hartford Skateboarding Task Force will hold a pasta dinner fundraiser on January 27, at 6:30pm at the Charter Oak Cultural Center. In addition to food and live music, the dinner will include further public dialog about the design of the proposed skatepark. The suggested donation is $15, but no one will be turned away for lack of funds. For more information, please contact Brendan Mahoney at 860-757 9568.

The Hartford Skateboarding Task Force was empanelled in winter 2009 by the Hartford Court of Common Council to explore the viability of a formal skatepark in the City. In April 2010, The Task Force recommended that one should be built at the City’s de facto skatepark, “Heaven”, New Ross, County Wexford Park atop I-84. The Council accepted these recommendations and since then the Task Force has been exploring funding opportunities as well as creating design recommendations.
