By Hartford Courant

April 27, 2009

Bagpipers and a color guard will herald a ground-breaking Tuesday for a permanent memorial, to be located near the Sailors and Soldiers Memorial in Bushnell Park, in honor of workers injured or killed on the job.

Tuesday is also Workers Memorial Day, and the state AFL-CIO will host a ceremony at noon on the north steps of the Capitol to commemorate the workers injured or killed on the job in the last year.

Smith Edwards Architects is designing the workers' memorial. The ground-breaking will take place on Trinity Street in Bushnell Park, near the Sailors and Soldiers Memorial.
