One of the rumors swirling around the debate about whether to open a men's "no freeze" shelter downtown was that 50 percent of those using the facility would be sex offenders.
That number came from city grants management Director Miguel Matos, according to Mike Zaleski at the Hartford Business Improvement District. Turns out that number is a bit high.
Here's data, provided by the city, for a one-month snapshot at the McKinney Shelter over the summer. Then, the number of registered sex offenders was more like 23 percent.
