The Charter Oak Health Center will hold a groundbreaking and ceremony today to celebrate the start of a multi-million facelift and expansion of its Grand Street facility.
Thanks to $11 million in federal American Reinvestment and Recovery Act cash for capital funding of the project ,the five story building that was built in the 1980s will include a new urgent care center, pharmacy and lobby on the ground floor with expanded suites for internal medicine, women's health, geriatrics, optometry, podiatry, nutrition, health education, dentistry and behavioral health.
COHC officials say the project will create about 360 new jobs, short and long term and will allow the facility serve an additional 12,500 patients. Currently it serves about 25,000 patients.
