Segarra Delivers State Of The City

By Jeff Cohen

March 12, 2012

Hartford Mayor Pedro Segarra gave his annual state of the city address Monday. WNPR's Jeff Cohen reports.

The biggest issue facing the city of Hartford isn't the state of the city, but the state of its budget. Next year's numbers are scary -- the city is projecting a 10 percent shortfall. That's $54 million.

In his address to the city council, Segarra took a page out of the book of Governor Dannel Malloy as he called on the city council and the community at large to shoulder some of the city's burden together.

"Governor Malloy last year spoke about shared sacrifice; that is our truth as well."

Segarra also highlighted what he says are some of the administration's successes -- from the Winterfest skating rink at Bushnell Park to the arrests made by the police department in conjunction with the state to the city's stable bond rating.
