MAYOR SEGARRA ANNOUNCES
POSITION REASSIGNMENTS AND APPOINTMENTS
---NEWS AND COMMUNITY RELEASE---
(December 13, 2010) --- Mayor Pedro E. Segarra today announced appointments and reassignments of responsibilities regarding important City positions. The changes were made in order to prioritize and further promote his administrations immediate needs, goals and initiatives. Topping the list are: Presenting a balanced budget; ensuring accountability and results;, safeguarding the health;, cleanliness and safety of the community; creating jobs and improving the quality of education and pursuing opportunities to expand the economic vitality of Hartford's business community and neighborhoods.
Julio Molleda will serve as the Acting Director of Management and Budget, replacing Rick Galarza who is taking the early retirement incentive. Mr. Molleda currently serves as the Chief Financial Officer for the Hartford Public Library.
"Julio's insight will give the City a new perspective on the financial challenges we face and help us come up with innovative solutions that best serve our taxpayers," said Mayor Pedro Segarra.
Also announced today--- Jared W. Kupiec has been named Chief of Staff effective Wednesday, December 15th. He will be responsible for day-to-day staff operations as well as push Hartford's legislative priorities as the Capital City looks to play a stronger role in Connecticut's growth.
Dr. Jose Colon-Rivas, who has been Acting Chief of Staff, will continue his cabinet advisory role as well as his responsibilities as Executive Director of the Office for Young Children, to further strengthen the Mayor's commitment to education and opportunity for Hartford's youth starting at birth.
"These changes are about putting Hartford's needs first. Mr. Kupiec has extensive legislative and private sector experience that will highlight Hartford's business portfolio and help leverage an urban agenda in regards to job creation. I want to commend Dr. Colon-Rivas for his dedication and commitment to dual responsibilities for the past several months and now his focus can be on preparing tomorrow's leaders for a more competitive global society," said Mayor Segarra. "Both Jared and Jose will continue the role of ambassadors to the community as we work to make government more efficient, more accountable and more responsive to the residents of Hartford," the Mayor added.
