The city council in August approved a resolution commending former Public Works Director Clarence Corbin for his work. Then, Mayor Eddie A. Perez - who fired Corbin earlier this year - vetoed the resolution, calling it an "impermissible interference by the Council in the personnel processes of the city."
And on Tuesday, the city council overrode the mayor's veto in the name of free speech (Pedro Segarra), free will (Matt Ritter), the freedom to move forward (Ken Kennedy), and Corbin himself.
Council President Calixto Torres and Democratic rJo Winch both voted against the veto, saying they didn't want to interfere with the mayor's office but that they would write Corbin personal letters of support if asked.
