**PRESS RELEASE**

HARTFORD POLICE UNION ENDORSES

PEDRO SEGARRA FOR MAYOR

The Hartford Police Union is pleased to announce its' endorsement of the candidacy of Pedro Segarra for Mayor. As the exclusive representative of the uniformed members of the Hartford Police Department we are well aware of the challenges faced by the City of Hartford. Mayor Segarra has tirelessly worked to restore honor and integrity to the position of Mayor since his appointment after the resignation of former Mayor Eddie Perez.

Hartford desperately needs a bridge builder to serve its' residents, visitors, and businesses so that they can thrive and achieve. Pedro Segarra has demonstrated to us that he is that bridge builder. While being faced with severe economic realities Pedro Segarra has remained committed to the importance of public safety in the rebuilding of the City of Hartford. He along with the council has remained committed to funding recruit classes to maintain the current level of police officers serving the community. He has established a constant dialogue with our Governor. He has readily identified the importance of the City's work force as part of the solution, showing a willingness to work cooperatively while at the same time understanding that the City's challenges are immense and the partners interest diverse.

He has further supported a number of activities such as an expanded PAL program and a Gun Task Force to promote a safer more vibrant community. He has clearly set lofty goals for public safety personnel who serve this City and has taken steps to independently review the operation of the police department's command structure. We support his actions and vision.

Hartford cannot afford not to elect Pedro Segarra as its' next Mayor. We stand ready to assist in that effort.

"It's an honor to receive the endorsement of the Hartford Police Union," Mayor Segarra said. "I look forward to working with the men and women who selflessly serve to keep our streets safe. I am committed to making sure that they have the tools and training to do their jobs safely and effectively."
