Councilman Larry Deutsch will introduce a resolution Monday calling for a council president to be selected at Monday's meeting.
Deutsch said the move was prompted in part by another resolution requesting the council's August meeting be pushed back from Aug. 9 to Aug. 23.
"I will push for a vote. So many people say it's a shame and embarrassing that all this discussion is going on without a decision," Deutsch said today. "I'm trying to shorten this period of indecision."
Three council members being considered for the role are Majority Leader rJo Winch, Councilman Jim Boucher and Councilman Kenneth Kennedy, he said.
Deutsch said he and others have regarded Kennedy as a capable person for the position. He said, however, that none of those being considered has secured the five votes needed to win the seat.
The council will also take up a resolution Monday to appoint Kennedy as chairman of the panel's Operations, Management and Budget Committee -- a role previously held by Mayor Pedro Segarra.
