The city's Democratic Town Committee has a short list of candidates to run for the board of education, and two reportedly interested incumbents - Elizabeth Brad Noel (left) and Luis Rodriguez-Davila (right) - aren't on it.
According to committee Chairman Sean Arena, his committee is recommending three top candidates - Robert Lachance, Albert Barrueco and Lori Hudson. Two others round out the top five - Benjamin Cruse and Elvis Tejada, Arena said.
Rodriguez-Davila, Arena said, did not come to his scheduled interview with the committee. Noel - in her third term on the school board - went to hers, but she didn't make the cut.
In an interview, Noel said she was surprised that she wasn't among the recommended candidates. But unless she is told that she can't place her name before the entire town committee, Noel said she plans to seek the nomination.
"I'm assuming it's not restricted to recommended candidates and I hope when the voting comes I will be nominated," she said
Efforts to reach Rodriguez-Davila were unsuccessful. The third incumbent, Andrea Comer, is not seeking re-election.
The board has five appointed members and four elected. Three of the elected spots are currently held by Democrats.
