The group voted last week to change its name to Hartford Parent Organization and file for nonprofit status.
"Once we become a nonprofit, all hell's going to break loose," said President Milly Arciniegas, referring to the amount of activity the group will be involved in.
They plan to file the paperwork next week, Arciniegas said.
That's not all the PTO council is up to.
Arciniegas said they are planning their first parent retreat, where parents will go through leadership training. Various school PTOs are already undergoing leadership training with community organizer Janice Flemming.
"We'll be even more structured and powerful come September," Arciniegas said.
