Colt Gateway

By Mike McGarry

August 29, 2013

A historic success after going through a series of developers, the vast area that comprises Colt Gateway is moving along well. In a measured step by step fashion, Larry Dooley of CG Management has plans for or filled over half 366,000 sq. ft. of the 633,000 sq. ft. available for development in the sprawling historic space.

With its mix of schools; Greater Hartford Academy of the Arts, Two River's High School and the River Street School, businesses like Foley Carrier in the South Armory and Insurity in the Saw Tooth building and its current 50 occupied apartments, there is lots of life in Coltsville.

CG Management is approaching its third anniversary of taking the reins of this massive complex. With 79 new housing units coming om the market in the next year. The potential of Colt's Gateway is evident. The new tenants, joining the current ones, will draw other service businesses. The neighborhood, always supportive, knows its needs and will be supportive.

An example is the Cafe Colt. Customers come from the businesses, the residents and neighbors. Often passersby stop to enjoy this great little spot. We met a group of Wethersfield ladies, once residents of the neighborhood, who came by and were very pleased to see the progress and now are regular customers.

Hopefully, in the near future, the dome will be open for tours. Once those are in place, Colt's Gateway will also be a destination along with its other varied roles.

Someday Coltsville may become a National park, but nobody, especially Larry Dooley, is awaiting such a designation before moving progress along. Suggestion: if you are interested in being part of this enterprise, get in now, bring your ideas to Larry. His office number is 860-522-5000 ext. 13.
