Democrats will choose members of the town committee Tuesday, with hotly contested races in several districts.

The 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th Districts are contested, with two 14-candidate slates in the 3rd, two 13-candidate slates in the 4th, two six-candidate slates in the 5th, two 13-candidate slates in the 6th, and three 15-candidate slates in the 7th.

The 1st District is not contested, with only one 15-candidate slate. The districts correspond with state representative seats; the 2nd District is not in Hartford.

Candidates were required to collect signatures from five percent of the enrolled Democrats in their districts to qualify to appear on the ballot, Democratic Registrar of Voters Olga Vazquez said.

Polls will open at 6 a.m. and close at 8 p.m.

Many of the city's polls have changed due to redistricting.

There will be no election Tuesday for the Republican Town Committee because none of the committee's 19 seats are contested, said Michael McGarry, party chairman.

The party has nominated 15 people so far for seats on the committee, and will add another four at its March 14 meeting, McGarry said.
