October 17, 2013

The Christian Activities Council’s North End Mural Project (NEMP)?will unveil two new works this weekend. NEMP is a collaboration of the Connecticut Artists Initiative, local muralists, and the City of Hartford’s Marketing, Events and Cultural Affairs Office (MECA).

On Friday, October 18th, at 5:30 pm, a new mural will be installed in the atrium of Hartford’s City Hall. The “We Can Impact Our Community” mural is the expression and creation of ten North End of Hartford youngsters, ages 12-16, who participated in a five-week summer experience, “Counselors In Training”, a component of the Christian Activities Council 2013 summer educational enrichment program.

The mural concept is based on the stories of current and past experiences shared by North Hartford Seniors, ages 62-99, who reside at the Horace Bushnell Congregate Homes. The mural describes a youth vision of movement toward light, hope and education.

On Saturday, October 19th, at 11 am, another mural will be unveiled at the Waverly Field section of Keney Park in Hartford. The mural, created by community members under the direction of artist Dyshann Anderson, is a depiction of baseball players created on behalf of the North End Little League, and is the second of a series of murals planned for the North End community.
