May 2-9, 2007
By The Hartford News

Construction on the long-awaited South End Senior and Wellness Center on Maple Avenue is scheduled to start this July, according to Charles Crocini, Director of Capital Projects for the City of Hartford. The project will go out to bid next month, Crocini said, and the new center is scheduled for completion by the end of the year.

The center will be located in the former Hartford Christian Academy, which was purchased by the city a few years ago.

The Center will house a large kitchen capable of providing 100 meals per sitting, a ceramics and arts and crafts room, accessible bathrooms, a unisex beauty/barbershop, a wellness center, a small conference/meeting room, a respite room with one bed and a small store. The third floor will have a private interview room to handle personal counseling, a fully-equipped wellness center, showers, a computer room, a library, a multi-purpose room and administrative offices.
