Fairs And Open Houses For Parents, Potential Students Scheduled

Report By Courant Staff

The Hartford public schools plan to showcase their 19 magnet schools in January with a series of school fairs and open houses.

The programs are designed to familiarize parents and potential students with the schools before a Feb. 16 deadline to apply.

At four school fairs - one in Simsbury and three in Hartford - parents and students can meet representatives of various schools and learn about their specialized themes and curriculums. The 19 schools themselves will conduct separate open houses, during which parents and students can tour the buildings and meet school officials.

Magnet school officials encourage parents and potential students to learn as much as they can about the schools before they apply because some schools have special calendars with year-round and extended-day sessions. Some require uniforms, and each has a unique academic theme.
