Tuesday, November 13 in Council Chambers. The next public hearing will be 8 P.M., Monday, November 19.
Hartford Image Project – The Council passed on
consent a resolution authorizing the reprogramming of $100,000 of Urban
Development Action Grant (UDAG) repayment funds for the Hartford Image
Project. The Hartford Image Project is
a marketing program which tries to counteract negative images of the city and
show that the city is an economically desirable location for a business. Numerous organizations and city agencies
have had input into the program including: the Hartford Convention and
Visitor’s Bureau, the Capital City Economic Development Authority, the Greater
Hartford Arts Council, the Metro Hartford Regional Economic Alliance, and the
Waterford Development Group. The
Project is under the auspices of the Hartford Economic Development Commission.
Tower Brook
Conduit - The Council
referred to the Operations, Management, Budget, Education, and Labor Committee
a resolution authorizing the City Manger to enter agreements with the
Metropolitan District Commission (MDC) and the Department of Environmental
Protection (DEP) to fund construction of a new storm water/sewerage system
along the city’s Tower Brook conduit. At present sewerage system and storm water system are combined. The separation (ordered by DEP in May 2001)
would alleviate flooding at the intersection of Tower Avenue and Main
Street. The cost of the project is $4.3
million of which the city would pay $1.075 million. DEP would fund $1.075
million through a grant to the city and MDC would pay the remainder.
Sport Sciences
Academy – The Council passed
a resolution approving the construction of a new Sport Sciences Academy Magnet
High School at a cost of $67,648,775. The resolution authorizes the Hartford
Board of Trustees to submit a grant application to the State Department of
Education for 100% of the project’s cost. According to the resolution the Sport Sciences Academy has
inadequate space at its present location.
Hartford Children’s Theater – The Council passed a
resolution to reprogram $150,000 Urban Development Action Grant (UDAG)
repayment funds to the Hartford Children Theater. The money will be used in conjunction with the Black Box/Carriage
House Renovation Project to acquire a new home for the Hartford Children’s
Theater. The Operations, Management,
Budget, Education, and Labor Committee recommended passage.
