There are 30 items on the regular agenda, though more may be
added on the supplemental agenda. The Council meeting will begin at
8 P.M. and will be televised on Hartford Public Access, Channel 21.
Community Employment
Incentive Program -- The Council will be voting on a resolution which will
authorize the Department of Human Services (DHS) to apply for funds from the
Connecticut Department of Labor under the Community Employment Incentive
Program (CEIP). The resolution allows
DHS to enter into contractual agreements with Southend Community Services, the
Connecticut Puerto Rican Forum, and the Urban League of Greater Hartford to provide
employment related services to eligible residents. (Item #7)
Senior Center Arts
Program -- On the recommendation of the City Manger, the Council will vote
on a resolution to contract with OPUS Inc. to provide a cultural arts program
for Hartford's funded senior centers. The one year contract is for $40,000. (Item #4)
AIDS Education
Funding -- The Council will vote on a resolution allowing the City Manager
to contract with state the Department of Public Health to receive $44,928 for
the city Health Department for AIDS/HIV education and risk reduction. The funds are for education of those groups
which typically receive the least health education. (Item #6)
Public Safety
Commission -- On the recommendation of Council member O'Connell, the Council
will be voting on a resolution requesting the City Manager report on possible
improvements in recruitment, screening, selection, training, and management of
the police and fire departments. The
resolution references a resolution the Council passed in April requesting a
public safety report 90 days from April 12, 1999. (Item #22)
Homestead Ave. Redo
-- The Council will vote on a resolution authorizing City Manager Kee Borges to
execute a supplemental agreement with the state of Connecticut for
reconstruction of the intersection of Walnut St., Homestead Ave., and Garden
St. The project will allow left hand
turn lanes, movement of Homestead Ave. south to form a more typical
"four-leg" intersection, new traffic lights, landscaping, and lighting
enhancements. (Item #3)
