Pay Raises for City Employees – On the recommendation
of Deputy Mayor Sanchez, the Council
sent a set of ordinances to public hearing on July 17 designed to give pay
increases to some non-union city employees. At its last meeting the Council approved pay raises for some of the
non-union employees and not for others. The Deputy Mayor is requesting that the positions which did not pass at
the last meeting be reconsidered. The
pay increases would be retroactive to July 1, 1997.
Blue Hills Zone Change -- The Council passed an
ordinance changing the zone classification of the west side of Blue Hills
Avenue between Manchester and Branford Streets from residential to retail. The change will allow CVS to build a
pharmacy on the parcel. At a public
hearing prior to the last Council meeting 2 residents spoke against the zone change,
4 spoke in favor of it.
Parkville Zone Change -- The Council withdrew an
ordinance that would have changed the zone classification West side of new Park
Avenue between Interstate 84 and Merrill Street from industrial to retail. The change would have allowed REI
(Recreational Equipment, Inc.) to build a sporting goods retail store on the
site.
