There were 53 items on the regular agenda. The
next Council meeting will be August 12, 2002 at Hartford City Hall in Council
Chambers. The next public hearing will
be Monday, July 15.
City Manager Contract
Extension -- The Council will vote on two resolutions which would extend
the employment contract of City Manager Albert Ilg. One resolution, with five members signed on as sponsors, would
extend the City Manager’s contract to August 17. The other resolution, with four members signed on as sponsors,
would extend his contract to December 2, 2003. (Items #33 & 52)
Park Hours Changes
-- On the recommendation of Council member Robert Painter, the Council will
send to public hearing July 15, an ordinance which would change the rules
around Hartford Parks hours. If passed
the ordinance would change Hartford Park hours from 6 A.M. through 10 A.M. to
dawn to dusk. (Item #30)
Information
Technology Integration -- On the recommendation of City Manager Ilg, the
Council will vote on a resolution which would approve the consolidation of the
information technology operations of the City and the Hartford Public Schools. The schools system and City already share
their financial management system. The
consolidation was recommended in an audit of Hartford Public Schools. The joint operation would take advantage of
the schools technology infrastructure. (Item #3)
Funds for Rawson
School and Extending Kindergarten -- On the recommendation of Council
members Kennelly, Kennedy, Rossetti, and Watkins, the Council will vote on a
resolution which would use a portion of the State Education Cost Sharing Grant
to continue full day kindergarten and the operation of Rawson Elementary
School. Because of recent budget cuts
Hartford’s kindergarten was going to go from full-day to half-day and the
Rawson School was going to be closed. According to the resolution, the State Education Cost Sharing Grant is
going to be higher than was anticipated at the time the 2002-2003 budget was
created. (Item # 45)
LEGO Walk of Fame
– On the recommendation of the City Manager, the Council will vote on a
resolution which would contribute $25,000 to the Connecticut Children’s Medical
Center Foundation to help offset the cost of the LEGO “Walk of Fame”. The Walk of Fame, a fundraiser for the
Connecticut Children’s Medical Center (CCMC), will feature LEGO statues of
celebrities and everyday heroes like Mark Twain and Geno Auriemma. The display of the statues is expected to
bring 70,000 visitors to Hartford after which time the models will be sold and
the proceeds donated to the CCMC. (Item
#12)
