There are 56 items on the regular agenda, though more may be
added on the supplemental agenda. The Council meeting will begin at
8 P.M. and will be televised on Hartford Public Access, Channel 21.
Automobile Insurance
Legal Action -- The Council will vote on a resolution directing the
Corporation Counsel to bring "legal action on behalf of the City of
Hartford to challenge and overturn current automobile insurance pricing
systems.” The Council had directed
the Corporation Counsel to begin
researching automobile insurance rates at its February 8 meeting. (Item #39)
Demolition Funds
-- The Council will send to Public hearing on July 19 an ordinance
appropriating $5,553,600 for demolition and mothballing of vacant and blighted
buildings. The funds represent a
portion of the funds made available to the city the State Bond Commission. The Capital City Economic Development
Authority (CCEDA) approved the city’s request for the funds in its June 16
meeting. (Item #37)
Urban Act Funds for
Veeder Place -- The Council will vote on a resolution accepting $5,664,800
in Urban Act Funds from the State Bond Commission for renovation of Veeder
Place and the Tri-Neighborhood Initiative. The funds will be used to complete the renovation of Veeder Place. (Item #11)
Urban Act Bond Funds
-- The Council will vote on a resolution authorizing City Manager Kee
Borges to file an application for $12.2 million in Urban Act funds. The state will allocate the funds in three
installment of $4 million. The funds
will be used to undertake neighborhood revitalization initiatives proposed by
the Neighborhood Revitalization Zones. (Item #7)
Affirmative Action
Plan -- On the Recommendation of
the City Manager, the Council will be voting on a new Affirmative Action Plan
for the city. (Item # 32)
Goodwin Estate -- On the recommendation of Council member
McGarry, the Council will be voting on a resolution creating a task force to
study options for marketing the Goodwin estate property and make
recommendations for how the city can best dispose of the 17. 5 acre
property. Fifteen hundred dollars would
be allocated to the task force. This
item was postponed at the Council’s last meeting. (Item #29)
