There are 70 items on the regular agenda. The Council meeting will begin at 8 P. M.
at Hartford City Hall in Council Chambers and will be televised live on Hartford
Public Access, Channel 21.
Yolanda Castillo as New Council Member -- The Council
will vote to install Yolanda Castillo on the Council to complete the term of
former Deputy Mayor Francis Sanchez. Ms. Sanchez resigned after the Council’s May 11 meeting. Ms. Castillo will serve on the Council from
June 25 to December 4, 2001. (Item #5)
Raising The Mayor’s Salary -- On the recommendation
of Council members Veronica Airey-Wilson and Elizabeth Horton Sheff, the
Council will vote on an ordinance which could raise the mayor’s salary from
$30,000 to $75,000 per year. If the
ordinance is passed by Council, it will be placed on the November 6 ballot. The Operations, Management, Budget,
Education and Labor Committee is
recommending passage. The item has been
to public hearing and is on the calendar for action. (Items #27 and 46)
UDAG Funds for Upper Albany Main Street Program --
The Council will vote on a resolution allocating $50,000 from Urban Development
Action Grant (UDAG) repayment funds for the Upper Albany Main Street
Program. The Main Street Program
promotes self reliance and focuses on four areas of revitalization: design,
economic restructuring, organization, and promotion. This resolution was discussed at the Operations, Management,
Budget, Education, and Labor Committee which is recommending passage. (Item # 33)
Billboard Ordinance – The Council will vote on
an ordinance which would change the charter with reference to signs. If the ordinance were adopted, sign permits
would be issued to the owners of the property where the sign is located, rather
than the owner of the sign. The
ordinance has been to public hearing and is on the action agenda. (Item # 49)
Greater Hartford Literacy Council – The Council will
vote on a resolution authorizing City Manager Sandra Kee Borges to allocate
$60,000 from the 2001-2002 budget to support the Greater Hartford Literacy
Council and its Literacy Funnel. (Item
# 57)
