There are 82 items on the regular agenda. The Council meeting will begin at 8 P. M. at
Hartford City Hall and will be televised on Hartford Public Access, Channel 21.
Bond Issues for
November -- The Council will vote to send seven bond ordinances to public
hearing June 19. If the ordinances are
approved, they will be placed on the November 7, 2000 ballot. The projects to be funded include:
- New Public Safety Complex ($40,000,000) This ordinance would fund a new building and
parking garage to house the Police and Fire Department Administrations and the
Fire Marshall’s office. (Item #43)
- Renovations for Fire stations and Fire
Training Academy ($6,200,000) This
ordinance would fund interior and exterior improvements to several fire
stations and the Fire Training Academy. (Item # 44)
- Central Library Phase II and Library
Branches ($21,500,000) This ordinance
would fund major renovations to the Central Library ($18,000,000) and
renovations to the Albany Avenue and Goodwin Branches ($3,500,000). (Item #45)
- New Swimming Pools ($6,000,000) This ordinance would fund two new pools at
Keney and Colt Parks and renovations to the bath houses at Pope, Keney, and
Colt Parks. (Item #46)
- Pool Enclosures ($6,000,000) This ordinance would fund pool enclosures
for the pools at Goodwin, Keney, and Colt Parks. (Item # 47)
- School Improvements ($75,000,000) This ordinance would fund renovations
identified in the Hartford Public Schools Facilities Study. (Item # 48)
- Metzner Center ($3,500,000) This ordinance would fund renovations and
construction at the Metzner Center for additional recreational and day care
services. (Item # 49)
Batterson Park Pond
Improvements – The Council will vote on a Capital Improvement ordinance
which will fund improvement of the water quality of Batterson Park Pond. The
improvements will be funded by state Department of Environmental Protection
($51,300) and the city’s general fund ($34,200). The Operations, Management, Budget, Education, and Labor
Committee is recommending passage. This
item has been to public hearing and is on the agenda for action. (Item #30)
Elizabeth Park
Improvements – On the recommendation of the City Manager, the Council will
send to public hearing June 19, an ordinance which would appropriate $228,900
for improvements to Elizabeth Park. The
funds would come from Capital Improvement budget and be fully reimbursed from
the Town of West Hartford and the Ethel F. Donaghue Trust Fund for Elizabeth
Park. The improvements will include
replacement and construction of pathways around the rose garden and pond area. (Item # 50)
