agenda. The Council meeting will begin at 8 P. M. at Hartford City
Hall in Council Chambers.
Grandparent Commission –
The Council will vote to send to public hearing June 17 an ordinance which
would create a commission on grandparents. The Commission, composed of 15 members, will be charged with advising
the Mayor and Council on programs to benefits grandparents raising
grandchildren. (Item #45)
Grandparent Housing – The
Council will vote on a resolution which would designate $52,000 in Urban
Development Action Grant (UDAG) funds to study the cost of converting the former
Clark Street School into supportive housing for grandparents and their
grandchildren. (Item #8)
Commercial Parking Lot
Regulations – The Council will vote on an ordinance which would change the
regulations governing commercial parking lots. If passed, the permit fees for commercial lots would be raised. Fees for a 16-30 commercial car lot would be
raised from $15 to $250 for lots outside downtown to $500 for lots
downtown. Rates for other sized lots
will go up proportionately. In
addition, the ordinance requires lot owners to ensure that lots are paved with
durable and dustless surface. The
Planning, Economic Development, and Zoning Committee is recommending passage of
the ordinance. This ordinance has been to public hearing and is on the agenda
for action. (Item #28)
Playing Field Fees -- On
the recommendation of City Manager Albert Ilg, the Council will vote on a
resolution which would raise the user fees for city playing fields. According to the resolution the fees have
not been raised in ten years, though the cost of maintaining the fields has
gone up. The resolution will also raise
the rates charged to non-residents. (Item #7)
One Book for Greater Hartford
– The Council will vote on a resolution which will recognize the One Book for Greater
Hartford project. This is part of a
nationwide program designed to bring people in a community together, promote
literacy, and to encourage parents and children reading together. The book chosen is Breathe, Eyes, Memory
by Edwidge Danticut. (Item #49)
