There are 44 items on the regular agenda. The Council meeting will begin at 8 P. M.
at Hartford City Hall in Council Chambers and will be televised live on
Hartford Public Access, Channel 21.
Elizabeth Park Alcohol Waiver -- The Council will
vote on a resolution allowing the Pond
House in Elizabeth Park to serve alcohol along with its food service. This resolution has been reviewed by the
Parks and Recreation Committee which recommended passage. The Council postponed action on this item at
its last meeting. (Item #23)
Economic Development Commission Appointment -- On the
recommendation of Deputy Mayor Sanchez and Council member Eugenio Caro, the
Council will vote on a resolution naming Carmen Sierra to the Hartford Economic
Development Commission. Ms. Sierra
would replace Alexander Apointe who resigned. The Council postponed action on this item at its last meeting. (Item #24)
Funds for Capewell -- The Council will vote on a
resolution which would provide additional funding to the development of the
former Capewell manufacturing site. The developer, Hartford Capewell Housing Limited Partnership, is
requesting $400,000 in HOME Program loan funds and $689,000 in Capital City
Economic Development Authority loan funds. The renovation of the site will include the creation of 106 apartment
units, a two-story parking garage, and commercial office space. This item has been reviewed by the Housing Committee, which is
recommending passage. (Item #20)
Hartford Times Building -- The Council will vote on a
resolution authorizing City Manager Kee Borges to renegotiate the city’s lease
of the Hartford Times Building and then enter a lease for space in Constitution
Plaza. The city leases the Hartford
Times building from the city’s Municipal Employees’ Retirement Fund (MERF)
which also owns the space at Constitution Plaza. The move is planned to free up the space occupied by the Hartford
Times Building for the Adriaen’s Landing Development Project. The resolution has been recommended for
passage by the Operations, Management Budget, Education, and Labor Committee. (Item #5)
Funds for Senior Centers – On the recommendation of
Council Members Louis Watkins and Alphonse Marotta, the Council will vote on a
resolution to allocate $890,000 from the Capital Improvement Fund to the North Hartford Senior Center and the
South Hartford Senior Center. The state
Bonding Commission has recently released $1,365,000 for the two centers, but,
according to the resolution, more funds are needed. (Item #43)
