Hartford City Council Meeting

Monday, February 22, 1999

Prepared by: Citizens’ Research Education Network, Hartford Public Library, and Hartford 2000

There are 31 items on the agenda, though more may be added at the meeting.  The meeting is scheduled for 8 PM at Hartford City Hall.

Budget for Parking Authority -- The Council will be considering action on a budget for the new Hartford Parking Authority through June 30, 1999.  The total budget, including one-time start-up costs, for the Authority is $64,025.  Of that amount, $17,105 will be the responsibility of the city and $46,920 will be the responsibility of the Authority.  (Item #5)

Outdoor Advertising -- The Council will be voting on resolution which will authorize City Manager Kee Borges to execute a lease agreement with Martin Media for property at Hamilton and Wellington Streets.  The agreement would allow Martin Media to erect an outdoor sign on the property.  The resolution was on the agenda for the January 11 meeting but was postponed at the recommendation of the Planning, Economic Development, and Zoning Committee until details of the lease agreement were known.  (Item #15)

Capital Region Job Corps Center  -- The Council will be voting on a resolution authorizing City Manger Kee Borges to enter into contractual agreements with other governmental agencies and businesses to create the Capital Region Job Corps Center.  The Center will serve up to 200 students and create up to 75 jobs.  The federal Department of Labor announced January 16 that Hartford would be awarded a Job Corps Center.  (Item #7)

Day Care Center -- The Council will vote on an ordinance to appropriate $170,969 for the construction of a day care center in unused space at the Dominic F. Burns Elementary School.  The center will serve 20 pre-school children year round.  The funding to renovate the space will come through the State Facilities Bond Funds.  Funds for the operation of the Center will come through Hartford School Readiness Program, city general funds, parent fees, and Child Day Care Subsidies.  (Item #14)

If you have any questions about the agenda, call the Council at 522‑4888 or Greg Vickers at CREN, 249‑1416.  The Citizens' Research Education Network is a non‑profit information center for Hartford community‑based organizations.
